4. Policy

4.1 General听Principles听

4.1.1 91影视 will provide clear information about entry requirements, application routes, deadlines, selection processes, offer conditions, deposits, visa听requirements听and other matters relevant to admission.听

4.1.2 Applications will be considered fairly and consistently against published criteria. 91影视 will consider both prior achievement and potential, recognising that applicants may听demonstrate听readiness for study in听different ways.听

Consideration of potential听achievement beyond academic qualifications听may include (but is not limited to):听

  • consideration of different qualifications/routes into HE听听
  • educational听context听
  • participation in sustained widening participation outreach activity听听

4.1.3 91影视 is committed to widening access and participation. Admissions听processes听support the commitments set out in the听Courtauld鈥檚听Access and Participation Plan听2025-2029听by听seeking听to minimise unnecessary barriers for applicants, promoting equality of opportunity for听underrepresented听groups. Contextual information may be used where relevant to support fair assessment and to recognise the circumstances in which an applicant鈥檚 achievements have been gained.听

4.1.4 91影视 will make reasonable adjustments to the admissions process where听required. Disability declarations are used to arrange support or adjustments and are not used when making academic admissions decisions.听

4.2 Entry听Requirements听

4.2.1听Entry requirements are published on programme听webpages,听and听are听reviewed and听approved by the听Undergraduate听Admissions and Widening Participation Committee,听Postgraduate听Admissions听and Widening Participation Committee, or Research Degrees Committee as听appropriate.听Applicants are encouraged to review entry requirement information before they apply.听

4.2.2 Entry requirements are set to reflect the knowledge, skills and experience听required听for successful study on the relevant programme听whilst听also听supporting fair access.听

4.2.3 91影视 considers UK and international qualifications. International qualifications are considered with reference to recognised comparability information, including听听where听appropriate.听

4.2.4 Applicants whose first language is not English may听be required听to听demonstrate听English language听proficiency. Accepted tests, scores and any exemptions are听published听online in 91影视鈥檚 English language requirements guidance.听

4.2.5 Where an applicant has studied at听an appropriate level听in English, this may be considered as evidence of English language听proficiency, subject to the requirements published by 91影视 and, where relevant, UK Visas and Immigration.听

4.2.6听The听Courtauld听is committed to allowing all our applicants to听demonstrate听their potential, and show themselves to their best advantage, regardless of鈥痓ackground. In recognition of the barriers听applicants听from underrepresented backgrounds face in applying to higher education, 91影视 offers a contextual offer scheme. Eligible听applicants听may receive an offer of up to two grades lower than our typical grade requirements.听Applicants听from the following groups are likely to be made a contextual offer:听

  • Applicants听from听听Q1&2听
  • Applicants听from the Global Majority听(as defined in our听APP).听
  • State school attendees听
  • Disabled听Applicants听
  • Care experienced听Applicants听

4.3.2 91影视听complies with听the deadlines published by UCAS, ensuring that no application received by the equal consideration deadline is rejected听on the ground that it was received after others. 91影视听does听manage and assess applications throughout the听cycle and听may make offers before the equal consideration deadline.听

4.3.3 91影视 may consider undergraduate applications received after the equal consideration deadline where places听remain听available. It may听participate听in UCAS Extra or UCAS Clearing where places听remain听available after earlier deadlines have passed.听

General听

4.4.5 Some programmes require听additional听selection activity, such as an interview, test, portfolio听review听or practical assessment. Where this is听required, it will be set out in programme information or applicant communications.听

4.4.6 91影视 does not normally interview undergraduate applicants, although an informal discussion may be used in limited circumstances where clarification is听required, including during Confirmation and Clearing.听

4.4.7 Interviews for postgraduate programmes may be used where they form part of the published or communicated selection process. Interview performance will be considered alongside the application and supporting documents.听

4.5.3 Applicants are expected to meet the conditions of their offer by the deadline听stated听in their formal offer communication.听

4.5.4 91影视 may consider whether an applicant who has narrowly missed an academic condition can still be admitted. This does not apply where the condition is required by law, regulation, visa sponsorship听requirements听or another mandatory requirement.听

4.5.5 Where a deposit is听required, the offer communication will听state听the amount, the deadline and how it should be paid.听If the deposit is not paid by the deadline听stated听in the correspondence, the offer may be considered withdrawn.听

4.6.8听Complaints or requests for review should be听submitted听in writing to the Admissions and Enrolment Team within 14 days of the relevant decision or听incident, unless听a different timescale is specified in the relevant procedure.听
