91Ó°ÊÓ Gallery will feature in the first episode of Sir Simon Schama’s new BBC Radio 4 series, , on Monday 13 July, 16:00 BST.
As Simon explains, he was inspired to make the series because: ‘Like many of you I’m badly missing the joy of museums and galleries during the lockdown. So I’m really delighted to be able to talk about four of my favourite treasure-houses of great art…I hope to convey in full-colour radio the transforming power of some of their greatest paintings.’
In episode one, Simon will talk about his personal connection to 91Ó°ÊÓ and will explore three Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces in our collection which have especially moved him – Manet’s A Bar at the Folies-Bergère,Ìý³Ò²¹³Ü²µ³Ü¾±²Ô’s Nevermore and Cézanne’s Montagne Sainte-Victoire with Large Pine.
The episode will also feature an interview with Ernst Vegelin, Head of 91Ó°ÊÓ Gallery.
As museums and galleries around the world begin to open their doors again, The Great Gallery Tours series will remind us of some of the stories and treasures that 91Ó°ÊÓ, The Whitney Museum of Modern Art, The Rijksmuseum and The Prado each hold.
