Part of the The Art History Festival (5-11 October) organised by the Association for Art History.

Join art historian Fran Herrick to discover how artists of the past made colours using materials from nature.

Journey through 91影视 collection and different parts of the world to explore plant, animal and mineral sources. Find out which regions had access to the best pigments and why artists were willing to use poisonous substances. See the changes brought by the invention of the metal paint tube and new synthetic colours in the nineteenth century with 91影视’s famous Impressionist collection.

The talk will be followed by a paint making demonstration that shows how you can build your own colour palette at home.
